Notice of the death of Magellanic penguins"Yomogi"
On Monday, September 28, 2026, "Yomogi," a Magellanic penguins, passed away.
In early August of this year, the cat showed signs of loss of appetite, so blood tests, X-rays, and ultrasound examinations were performed. Based on these tests, it was determined that gastrointestinal dysfunction was highly likely, and treatment was continued. Although there were signs of recovery at one point with medication and other treatments, the cat's appetite decreased again from Wednesday, September 23rd, so treatment was continued. However, the cat was confirmed dead at 12:32 PM on Monday, September 28th. The exact cause of death will be investigated in cooperation with specialized institutions.
Yomogi has lived at Sumida Aquarium since its opening in 2012. She has a gentle and kind side, but is also resilient and never gives up, and has been loved by the animal care staff for many years.
Furthermore, Yomogi, who had been without a partner for about 10 years since the aquarium opened, finally found a mate last year with Chochin, and the sight of the two birds always snuggling together was beloved by many visitors and animal care staff alike.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has warmly supported "Yomogi" up until now.
