Notice of the end of public viewing of the green sea turtles "Sunrise" and "Sunset".

"Asahi" and "Yuhi," two green sea turtles born in the Ogasawara Islands in August 2025 and exhibited at Sumida Aquarium since September 2025, will cease public viewing on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

After their public display at Sumida Aquarium ends, the two cubs will embark on a 24-hour voyage back to their home island of the Ogasawara Islands with the animal care staff who have watched over their growth. They will then be returned to the sea by the animal care staff from a beach in Ogasawara Village.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has watched over the growth of "Asahi" and "Yuhi" for about a year. Before returning to our hometown of Ogasawara, please come and see "Asahi" and "Yuhi."

About Sumida Aquarium's Green Sea Turtle Conservation Activities

Since its opening in 2012, Sumida Aquarium has partnered with Ogasawara Village in Tokyo to participate in green sea turtle conservation activities. As part of this effort, they carefully raise baby green sea turtles born in the Ogasawara Islands for about a year, allowing them to grow to a size where they are less vulnerable to predators, before returning them to their home sea.

Going forward, through our green sea turtle conservation activities, we will continue to convey the importance of the connection between animals and the natural environment, and the importance of passing on life to future generations, while also contributing to efforts to protect the rich natural environment of the Ogasawara.
