Collaboration with Ogasawara Village to promote the World Natural Heritage site in Tokyo

Sumida Aquarium has been interacting with Ogasawara Village since it first opened in 2012. For example, we exhibit animals from the Ogasawara , cooperate in green sea turtle conservation, hold beach cleanups, and create upcycled products using marine debris (*).

Available for a limited time only. There may be periods when it is not available.

The Ogasawara Islands are a collective name for over 30 islands scattered across the Pacific Ocean, approximately 1,000 km south of central Tokyo. These oceanic islands have never been connected to the continent, and are home to many endemic and rare species, forming a unique island ecosystem. This recognition led to the islands being registered as a World Heritage Site in 2011, making them a treasure trove of precious and irreplaceable nature.
